A DAILY EXAMINATION

“Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth.”

Psalm 26: 2, 3 King James Version

There are people who go to the doctor to have a yearly checkup but they neglect to go to Jesus for a daily examination. The doctor can prescribe medicine and treat us if the tests show that we have a bad heart but only Jesus can mend a broken heart and a heart that is filled with unforgiveness. We must allow our great Physician, Jesus, to give us a daily examination. If we only allowed Him to examine our hearts once a year, our hearts would be in terrible trouble.

Our enemy, satan, attacks us daily with something negative and if we allow the poison from his barbs to remain in our hearts, then our hearts will become calloused, filled with resentment, bitterness and unforgiveness. Sometimes we are not even aware that our hearts need the healing touch of Jesus. When we are attacked and hurt, we bury the resentment and the hurt deep in our hearts because it is so painful that we don’t want to think about it.

When we bury the hurt in our hearts instead of going to Jesus the minute we realize what is happening and ask Him to help us, we allow satan to discourage and defeat us. We don’t have the power to withstand the attacks of satan. Only Jesus has the power to defeat satan. Jesus has already won the victory over satan on the cross. However, we are in a war and satan still attacks us every day in some way. We must allow Jesus to give our hearts a daily checkup so that the unforgiveness, bitterness, and resentment won’t have time to build up in our hearts.

What condition is your heart in today? Have you allowed Jesus to give your heart a checkup today? Don’t allow satan to keep you discouraged. It would make satan very happy if you became so discouraged that you stopped serving Jesus. Jesus understands how you feel and how much it hurts because He too was attacked and he was hurt more than any of us will ever be hurt. When you hurt, He hurts with you and He feels your pain.

Don’t put off going to Doctor Jesus for a checkup on your heart. Go to Him right now and ask Him to mend your broken heart and ask Him to remove anything in your heart that might hinder your relationship with Him and your service to Him. He will tenderly, lovingly and gently remove the poisonous arrows of criticism, resentment, bitterness and unforgiveness from your heart. He will not only take the poison from your heart; He will replace it with His healing ointment of gentleness, unconditional love and understanding. Allow Jesus to take the hurt from your heart today.
