A DOCTOR WHO LOVED JESUS

“And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years. And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will.”

Acts 13: 21, 22 King James Version

Several years ago when I was in the hospital for severe depression, I was assigned to a doctor who was a Christian. He was the only Christian doctor I had during those long and seemingly endless forty some years of crippling depression that I endured. This doctor truly is a man after God’s own heart. Not only was he patient, kind, understanding and gentle to me when I was in his office, he was kind and gentle to all of the patients in the hospital.

He shared a story with me that touched my heart even in the midst of all of my pain and heartaches. He told me that he used to take his patients to his home so he could be with them whenever they needed him. He told me that He wanted to take care of them on a personal level so he could prove to them that he cared about them and that God really did love them. He did that for several years until his wife told him that he couldn’t bring them home anymore.

The world says that a doctor or a counselor should not get involved personally with a patient but Jesus got involved with people. If Jesus, the greatest counselor who ever lived got involved with people on a personal level, how much more we should get involved with people. We read in John 11 about Jesus going to the home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus. They had a need and Jesus went to their home and met their need.

What an example of compassionate love our precious Saviour sets for us here. Oh that you and I would be like Jesus and give compassionate and unconditional love to everyone that we meet. When is the last time that you went and ministered to someone that had a need? Sometimes Jesus asks us to get out of our comfort zones and go minister to someone.

Are we willing to get out of our comfort zones or do we, like Jonah did, run the other way? If you remember the Lord told Jonah to go to Nineveh but Jonah tried to run away from the Lord. It didn’t work and it will never work. There is no place that we can go to flee from Jesus. If we really love Jesus like we should we will be happy and count it an honor that He gives us someone to minister to.

Are you listening to what the world tell us and not getting involved personally with people, or are you listening to what Jesus tells us do and personally ministering to people as Jesus did? Are you following the example of Jesus? If not, you are following in the footsteps of satan. There is no in between, we are either serving Jesus or we are serving satan.

When Jesus comes back for us, will you be able to look Him in the eyes knowing that you did the best you could or will you have to hang your head in shame because you didn’t want to get out of your comfort zone? Will He say to you “Well done, thou good and faithful servant?” Are you willing to give Him all of your time and everything that you have? The level of our service to Jesus depends on the level of love we have for Him.

How much do you love Him and what are you doing to prove to Him that you love Him? Are you getting out of your comfort zone or are you only doing things that don’t require any sacrifice on your part? Jesus sacrificed everything for us, His very life. If Jesus could do that for us, the very least we can do for Him is love others and get involved with them personally as He did. Will Jesus say to you that you are a man or a woman after His own heart?
