Our families are in danger of drifting apart from one another. In some homes the television is turned on as soon as the children get up and it is not shut off until they go to bed. The television has become a babysitter for the parents. I turned on the television a couple of hours ago to see if I could find a family program that would inspire me. All I saw in the listings were games, sex, violence, cursing and horror movies.
Today is Saturday and many children instead of going out to play or going on an activity with their families will be glued to the television all day and all night filling their minds and hearts with things that hurt and bring shame to our Saviour. As parents, we have a responsibility to teach our children about Jesus. One day, we will stand before God and give an account of how we raised our children.
I’ve had some parents tell me that they can raise their children any way they want to raise them. That is not a true statement and it breaks the heart of Jesus. Our children are given to us as a trust from God to raise them for Him. These verses clearly tell us that we are to tell our children about Jesus. Not only that, we are to take them to church. If Jesus were to return today, would your children be ready to meet Him? Are you obeying Jesus and telling your children about Him? Most important of all, have you asked Jesus into your heart to be your personal Saviour?
