A FAST OF LOVE

“Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? Wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?”

Isaiah 58: 3, 6 King James Version

There are people who are unable to fast due to physical problems. I am unable to go without eating as I get nauseous. We can fast in other ways. Jesus says “Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure”. When we fast, all of our time should be spent with Jesus. The purpose of fasting is not to impress Jesus, it is to search our hearts and be sure we are in right standing with Him.

There are people we have hurt and we have never asked them to forgive us. Then there are people who have hurt us, but we haven’t forgiven them in our hearts. The Love of Jesus is the solution to every crisis and heartache. When Jesus died on that cruel cross for us, He provided the solution for our sins. If we will allow Him to apply His precious atoning blood to our hearts, He will deposit His salvation, grace and mercy in our lives.

On that dark day at Calvary, Jesus fasted His blood for us. He broke the yoke of sin on the cross. No longer can satan keep us in bondage to him if we have accepted Jesus as our personal Saviour. He willingly suffered pain beyond description and rejection and heartache that we will never experience. He did all of this because of His great Love for us. We need to have a fast of love where we allow Jesus to take all the bitterness, hurt and unforgiveness from our hearts. Only then, will we be able to love others as He has commanded.
