A GIFT OF LOVE

“Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues. For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant. But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.”

Psalm 78: 36 – 38 King James Version

Christmas is next month and we will be celebrating the gift of love. God opened His heart and sent His only Son into the world to become our Saviour. Not only is Jesus our Saviour, He is our best friend, comforter, encourager and companion. He is with us in joy and happiness, and during our sorrow and pain. He never leaves us, not even for one minute.

The greatest gift anyone can give their family, loved ones and friends is a forgiving, understanding, compassionate and tender heart filled with unconditional love. If we would ever understand with our hearts and not just with our intellect that when we hurt someone we also hurt Jesus, I think we would stop being so critical and sarcastic to people.

When we refuse to forgive someone, we are putting ourselves above God. The Bible says “they lied unto him with their tongues but he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity”. If somebody lies to us and we harden our hearts and will not forgive that person, not only are saying we are better than God, our hearts are cold and indifferent toward Him.

Is your heart filled with love and compassion or is it filled with hatred and judgment? Will you give your family, loved ones and friends a compassionate and forgiving heart on Christmas day, or will you continue to hurt Jesus and break His heart?
