Two friends were talking and one friend said to the other one “Merry Christmas and all that stuff”. How this statement must have pierced the heart of God and Jesus just as if a knife was plunged deeply in their hearts. Jesus is Christmas; He is the Baby that was born in a manger and suffered and died for our sins.
We are still more than two months from Christmas, yet people are already beginning to put gifts on their credit cards that they can’t afford. They are making lists of people to invite to parties, and some of them are people they haven’t spoken to in over a year. I heard someone say when I lived in Texas “I have to invite her because it’s good public relations for our business”. How sad, dear people, that we use the celebration of the birth of the Saviour of the world to promote our business.
Yes, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the Christ Child, but if we claim to be Christians, then every day we should be as happy, as eager and as excited as we are on Christmas Day. When Jesus forgives our sins, comes into our hearts and becomes our personal Saviour that is an ongoing gift that should fill us every day with hope, peace and joy.
As you make your plans and your lists for Christmas, please don’t forget the reason for Christmas, and His Name is Jesus, the Saviour of the world. What will you give Him on His birthday? Will you give Him your heart and also your life?
