A NEEDY PEOPLE

“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.”

Isaiah 41: 17, 18 King James Version

God, we confess that we are a needy people. We need You every day and in every way. We thank You that You are always with us to comfort, encourage and protect us. Father, hurricane season will be here next month and if a hurricane makes landfall we may be instructed not to drink the water because it is contaminated. We thank You that Your water is always available to us, the pure cleansing water of Your river of mercy and grace and that there is no danger of it ever becoming contaminated.

Indeed, we are a needy people. We are in need of the precious atoning blood of the Christ of Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. We need Jesus to put our broken homes, broken hearts and fragmented lives back together again. However, Jesus also needs us to spread His unconditional love and hugs to our families and friends and to a world that is lonely and hurting and desperately needs to know that Jesus loves them. He has not been here for over two thousand years. He has left us to hug for Him. He has given us a mandate to love others to Him through our actions and words.

As I am writing this devotional, my heart is very sad because a very dear friend of mine went into a coma and never came out of it. She was only forty six years old. I had the privilege of telling this dear lady about Jesus and how much He loved her. Thank God that the last time I saw her I told her how much I appreciated her and all of the smiles that she had given me. She worked at Wal-Mart and I have known her for eight years. The only place we ever saw one another was there at Wal-Mart. When I walked in the door to Wal-Mart this morning, I saw her picture sitting on a table in the entrance to the store and I knew immediately that she had died because they always put their employee’s pictures that have died on that table. I had shared my writings with her and she had shared her heart with me several times over the years. There were tears in a lot of the employee’s eyes this morning because she was well known and everyone liked her.

Yes, we need Jesus but He also needs us to spread His love to those who are in emotional pain. Even as I am writing this devotional, there is someone who is taking his or her life or thinking about doing it. We may not have the time to tell those precious people how much Jesus loves them. Have you given your life in full time service to Jesus? That does not mean that you have to preach, teach, write or sing full time, but it does mean that you have to be willing to shut off the television and spend that time telling others of the love of Jesus. Will you dedicate all of your time and talents to the one who gave His life for you?
