A SPECIAL GIFT

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22: 6 King James Version

Today is the day that has been designated to honor our mothers. On this day we will give our mothers gifts, take them out to eat and spend more time than usual with them. A special gift we can give to our mothers is to start serving Jesus. Some mothers have been praying for their children for many years. Nothing would encourage and make those mothers happier than seeing their children get their hearts right with Jesus. Mothers, don’t give up on your children! Keep praying for them and trust Jesus to bring them to Him. You can depend on Jesus. He will never fail you.

Mothers are the heartbeat of our lives. They carried us for nine months and went through tremendous pain to bring us into the world. They are the ones we usually turn to when we are hurting. I am sixty four years old but when I am hurting physically or emotionally I want my Mother. I have tears in my eyes as I remember how many times I hurt her and failed her. I was disobedient to her many times and did not treat her with the respect that she deserved. She has gone to be with Jesus so I can’t give her a hug today and a part of my heart is empty and hurting because I love her so much and still need her.

If your mother is still alive, I urge you; I plead with you, tell her that you love her. Tell her how much you appreciate all she has done for you through the years. Don’t take it for granted that she knows it! It does not matter how old we are or what we have accomplished in our lives, to our mothers we are still their little children.

It is the same with our Heavenly Father. No matter how many Bible Colleges we have attended, how many diplomas we have, how many sermons we’ve preached, how many songs we have sung, or how many years we have served Jesus, we are still His little children and we still need Him. In fact, the more that we grow in the knowledge of Jesus, the more we understand how little we know and we realize how much we desperately need His guidance and encouragement in our lives.

Make this day the greatest Mother’s Day that your mother has ever known. Don’t just take her out to eat or give her a gift, talk to her and listen to her with your heart. If you will do this, your mother will feel that she is still worth while and she will feel loved, cherished and needed. Thank God for our mothers who are extensions of the Love of God for us. Thank God that we have mothers who never give up on us and who pray for us. May we be not only the loving children to our mothers as we should be, but may we also be the loving children to our Heavenly Father that He desires.
