A WELL OF HAPPINESS AND JOY

“The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John 4: 11 - 14 King James Version

Have you ever turned on the faucet in the kitchen sink to get a drink of water because you were thirsty? I’m sure most of us have gone to the sink to get a drink of water. There have been times when the water that came out of the faucet in my kitchen sink was cloudy and dirty. There was one time when the water coming out of my faucet stayed cloudy and dirty for almost a week. A couple of times I didn’t have any water at all because they were working on something and had shut my water off.

Oh dear people, the water that comes out of the well of our precious, compassionate, caring and loving Saviour is never cloudy and dirty and is never shut off. It is always pure and clean. Our well of happiness and joy is His blood which He shed for us on the cross of Calvary.

Because of this well of water, His cleansing and atoning blood, we can be cleansed and have our sins forgiven and have everlasting life if we will but humble ourselves and admit that we are sinners. If we will ask Jesus to forgive us and come into our hearts to be our personal Saviour we will live with Him for all eternity.

Without the blood of Jesus applied to our hearts for the forgiveness of our sins, we will never know real happiness and real joy. The world entices us with its flashing lights and tells us that if we have big homes, big cars and a lot of money we will have happiness. These things are very appealing and can bring happiness for a little while. However, the happiness will fade away eventually because of having to have our homes and cars repaired and there goes our money.

The world tells us that we can find relief from our pain in drugs, sex and alcohol. Again, these things are only a temporary escape from our problems and pain. When the effects of the alcohol and drugs wear off, the pain and problems are still there. We will never have real happiness and real joy until we give our hearts and lives to Jesus, the Saviour of the world. He paid a very expensive price for our happiness and joy, His very life’s blood which He shed for us on the cruel cross of Calvary.

Do you have this well of happiness and joy in your heart? Has there ever been a time when you humbled yourself and admitted that you are a sinner? Have you asked Jesus to forgive you and come into your heart to be your personal Saviour? If not, I urge you; I plead with you to do it now. Tomorrow may be too late; even another hour may be too late. Please don’t put off saying yes to Jesus. Give your heart and life to Jesus right this minute and you will have a joy and happiness that you have never known.
