Be Still

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46: 1, 10 King James Version

Have you ever been frustrated because you didn’t understand what someone said to you? I think that many times it is because we are so busy talking ourselves that we don’t give the other person a chance to talk. When we do give them a chance to talk, we are not really listening to what they are saying.

These verses tell us that God is a very present help in trouble and to be still and know that He is God. How often do we go to Him in prayer and ask Him to help us and just keep talking? He is there, but we need to be quiet and let Him answer us. We may not like the answer but He will always answer. He will either say, “No, Yes, or Wait”. We can’t hear Him, however, if we are constantly talking.

Many times lawyers in a court case are able to sway the judge and jury by their persuasive talking. This is not true with God. The only thing that matters to Him is the condition of our hearts. If we go to Him with bitterness and unforgiveness in our hearts, He can’t grant us our request. If we haven’t forgiven the people who have hurt us, He won’t forgive us.

When He forgives us, He never brings it up again. He acts like it never happened because it is under the Blood of Jesus. We need to pattern our lives after His example. When someone hurts us, we need to forgive that person and never mention it again. Also, if we continue to dwell on what that person did to hurt us, we have not truly forgiven him or her.
