BLESSING OR CURSING

“But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”

James 3: 8 – 10 King James Version

I read a story several years ago about a rancher who spent four months taming a wild stallion. The rancher spent four hours a day for four months with this stallion. I wonder what would happen if we would spend four hours a day for four months asking God to help us control our mouth.

Before I invited the Christ of Calvary into my heart to be my personal Saviour, I had a terrible temper and said very cutting, sarcastic things to people. When I did say something kind to someone, which was very unusual, I would say something unkind about him or her to people. Jesus really had to work on my heart. However, He is faithful to keep His Word. He said that He would give us a new heart when we ask Him to forgive us and save us.

Yes, I was a terrible sinner before Jesus saved me and changed my heart and life. The Bible says that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). The Bible says that there is none righteous, no not one (Romans 3:10). Without the precious atoning blood of Jesus applied to our hearts, all of us are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).

What is coming out of your mouth, blessing or cursing? Are you saying encouraging and kind things, or are you saying critical and discouraging remarks to people? Who are you serving, Jesus or satan?
