BY OUR LOVE

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

John 13: 34, 35 King James Version

There is a song that we sing in church “They will know we are Christians by our love”. We can give all of our money, our possessions, our time and our talents but if we don’t give unconditional love then everything else is meaningless. People are hurting and they need to know someone loves them and cares about them.

Are we being faithful ambassadors of the love of Jesus to our loved ones, our friends and to a world that is in tremendous pain? Someone came to see me last night and as I looked into this person’s eyes, I saw hurt. I didn’t say anything; I gave this person a hug and watched as the tears rolled down the cheeks. We can talk all day about loving someone but if we never put action to our words then our words are meaningless and in vain.

One of the greatest ways to prove our love is by our forgiveness. This is what Jesus did for us as He hung on that cruel cross of torture. He said from His heart “I Love you and I forgive you”. There are times when we hurt Him by our words and actions to someone and we have to ask Him to forgive us. He is faithful to forgive us and never holds it against us again. Should we do less for the ones who hurt us? We need to remember that we aren’t perfect either; we make mistakes and hurt others also. When people look at you do they see the joy and forgiveness of Jesus on your face, or do they see the anger and hatred of satan?
