DON’T FORGET THEM

“Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.”

Hebrews 2: 12 King James Version

When I was at the grocery store a couple of days ago, I saw a mother pick up her little baby from the cart and kiss him over and over. That touched my heart and made me smile, however I saw something that made me sad. While the mother was kissing the baby, her little boy who was about five or six years old stood there watching with a very sad look on his face. Not one time did the mother even look at the little boy. She devoted all her attention and time to the baby.

God spoke to my heart and said that we do the same thing at church. We wonder why so many people leave the church. It is because when we have new members we concentrate on them and forget about the members who have been there for years. All of us need encouragement and it does not matter if we are there one week or fifty years. Our pastors and their families also need encouragement.

How many times do we thank the ones who play the piano and organ? Do we thank the ones who clean the church, fold the bulletins, visit the sick, make phone calls and send letters? It is vital that we welcome the new members and fellowship with them, but let’s not forget the ones who have been faithful for so many years.

When is the last time you invited your pastor to dinner? When is the last time you prayed for your pastor? Let’s not forget our pastors who spend many hours in service to Jesus and to us. More important, don’t forget Jesus. Put Him first before everything and everybody. He alone is worthy of our praise!
