EVEN JESUS

“Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?”

Matthew 26: 36 – 40 King James Version

A pastor contacted me the other day to ask for prayer as he was discouraged and hurting. All too often, we forget or don’t realize that our pastors are human. Even Jesus, the greatest Pastor of all, needed people to be with Him and pray with Him. He asked Peter “What, could ye not watch with me one hour”? The Bible says “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (2 Peter 3: 8). I think that Jesus was asking them to watch with Him more than what we count as one hour in our time. I think He was asking them to watch with Him as long as necessary. I believe with all my heart that He is asking us to watch and pray for our loved ones for as long as it takes for the pain, heartaches and loneliness they are enduring to go away.

If we will listen with our hearts, we will hear our loved ones, friends and the world asking us the same thing. We will hear them saying to us “Hug me. Tell me that Jesus loves me and will never leave me. Tell me that this crippling pain and depression will go away. I feel so lonely”.

The person who says that he or she doesn’t need anyone is deceiving himself or herself. O that we would love one another unconditionally as Jesus has commanded us to do and that we would become encouragers to one another on a daily basis! I don’t know what heartaches or trials you have in your life but I do know the one who can take them away and His name is Jesus. He is the great Comforter, Encourager, Physician and Healer. If you will go to Him in child like faith, He will be faithful to restore the joy, peace and happiness in your heart once again. He loves you. You are very precious to Him, so precious that He died for you. There is no greater love than the Love of Jesus. There is no greater friend than Jesus! What a privilege to be loved by the Saviour of the world!
