EVERYBODY

“And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Genesis 4: 8, 9 King James Version

I saw a little baby this morning at the store and when he looked at me, I smiled at him and he smiled back. The thought came to me that everybody who comes in contact with this precious little body is accountable to God for the way we treat him. If we ignore him when he looks at us, then we have missed the opportunity to extend the Love of Jesus to him, thereby also missing the chance to encourage the parents. Babies and elderly people may not always understand what we are saying, but they can feel the love we give them, or the lack of love.

Just as Jesus asked Cain where his brother was, so He asks us today where our brothers and sisters in Christ are. We have a responsibility to encourage one another and to bear each other’s burdens. Jesus has not asked, He has commanded us to love each other as He Loves us with unconditional love. Yet, we fail Him in that area of our lives many times.

Cain lied to Jesus and said he didn’t know where his brother was. I think there are times when Jesus has laid it on our hearts to go visit someone, send an email or call someone and we don’t do it. Sometimes we don’t have the time, but there are other times when we just don’t care. One day, we will have to give an account for everything we have said and everything we have done. I don’t want Jesus to look at me with sadness in His eyes because I hurt somebody. What kind of look will He give you on that day?
