FORGIVE YOURSELF

“But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children.”

1 Thessalonians 2: 7 King James Version

Jesus has told us that if we don’t forgive, neither will our Heavenly Father forgive us. There is one person that we don’t forgive and even if we do forgive this person it is extremely hard for us to do it. I have received many emails from people who tell me they can’t forgive themselves for what they have done.

Last night God spoke to my heart and told me that I had hurt Him and broke His heart every day for the last forty years. It was like someone had stabbed me in the heart with a sharp object. I asked Him what He was talking about and He reminded me of something that I had done forty years ago for which I still had guilt feelings. He said to me “You asked Me to forgive you and I did. I have forgotten it and will never hold it against you or bring it up again. Yet, you are still in bondage to the guilt and you are hurting Me. You are saying that My forgiveness is not enough for you”.

Just as we are to forgive others, we need to forgive ourselves. We need to ask God to help us to never do it again. We should be gentle to ourselves like Jesus is when we make a mistake. I think sometimes we forget that we are still in the flesh and we will make mistakes and sin. There was only one perfect person and His name is Jesus.

If you are beating yourself up for something in your past, let it go. If you have confessed it and asked Jesus to forgive you, it is under His blood. Don’t let the world and satan keep you on a guilt trip. If you haven’t asked Jesus to forgive you, I urge you to do it now. If He forgives you, you are forgiven!
