GOD’S ROCKING CHAIR

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”

Revelation 3: 20 - 22 King James Version

I believe many times when we are hurting and heartbroken because of being overwhelmed with grief, loneliness and pain that our Heavenly Father and Jesus get up from their thrones and go sit in their rocking chairs of compassion, tenderness and understanding. They gently and tenderly pick us up and set us on their laps of unconditional love and mercy. I believe as they rock us and comfort us that they wipe away our tears and our pain with their kisses of understanding and love.

I don’t ever remember being rocked as a child but I really don’t remember too much of my childhood. I do remember and I have felt the loving and compassionate arms of my Heavenly Father and my precious Saviour go around me as they picked me up and sat me on their laps in their rocking chairs and held me close to their hearts of compassion, tenderness, understanding and love.

Many times they have whispered softly in my ear “We love you, Joanne, and we care when you are hurting and in pain. We won’t let anyone hurt you anymore. We understand when you are feeling lonely but we will never leave you or forsake you”. God loves us so much that He sent His only beloved Son to die for us. Jesus loves us so much that He walked that long and lonely road to Calvary and there allowed them to crucify Him on a cross of horror and torture for us.

We, as parents, hurt and are very concerned when our children are sick. I think that there are times when our children have high fevers and we are so concerned about them that Jesus leans over the bed and picks our children up and touches them with His healing hand. Jesus is our great physician. He not only heals bodies, He also heals our broken hearts. I believe that He wipes the tears from our children’s hearts with His tender kisses. We sometimes forget or fail to understand that our children have feelings too. When someone says things that hurt them, they get their feelings hurt just as we get our feelings hurt when someone criticizes us. Jesus loves our children more than we ever could love them. Our children are precious to Him and He is very protective of them.

I wonder if we have ever rocked our Heavenly Father and Jesus in our hearts. Have we comforted them when they are hurting because of being rejected, cursed and criticized? I read this statement in a book several years ago “I believe there is something up there in charge of the world”. Oh friends, our Heavenly Father and Jesus are not “something”. They are real and they have feelings. They hurt when we hurt and they rejoice when we are happy. They have proved how much they love us by their sacrifices for us. They can do no more to prove their love for us. It is up to us to open our heart’s doors a little wider to them.

If you are hurting today, reach your hands up to Jesus and our Heavenly Father and allow them to rock you in their rocking chairs of understanding, mercy, grace, tenderness, compassion and unconditional love. More important than that, however, we need to comfort them and rock them in our hearts when people say unkind things about them and reject them. Never forget that our Heavenly Father and our precious Saviour have feelings also. They want to be loved and accepted just as we want to be loved and accepted. How much do you love them and are you rocking them and comforting them when they hurt?
