HE DOESN’T ASK MUCH

“Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”

Philippians 2: 14 – 16 King James Version

There is a song with the words “The things that I love and hold dear to my heart are just borrowed; they’re not mine at all. Jesus, only let me use them to brighten my life. Remind me, remind me, dear Lord. Roll back the curtain of memory now and then. Show me where You brought me from and where I could have been. Remember I’m human and humans forget. So remind me, remind me dear Lord”.

How often we forget all the wonderful things Jesus has done for us. Truly we do need Him to remind us because we do forget. In the light of all He has done for us, He doesn’t ask much of us. He not only died for us; He lives for us. We serve a risen Saviour, not a dead one. He has asked us to do all things without murmurings or disputes. Yet, how often we complain when things aren’t going the way we want them to go.

He wants us, the ones who claim to be Christians, to shine as lights in the world of darkness. Many times I have heard people say, and I have even said this myself, “If that is what being a Christian is, I don’t want any part of it”. How sad and tragic it is that when the world looks at Christians they don’t see any difference in their lives. It is no wonder at all that teenagers don’t want what we have; it is because our actions don’t line up with what we are saying.

When Jesus asks us to do something, we need to do it willingly, cheerfully and with a grateful heart for all He has done for us. Are you complaining when Jesus asks you to do something for Him? You may have already had your day planned but it may not be what He has planned for you. Are you willing to change your plans without questioning Him or getting upset? If you are like me, I don’t like change. I want everything to go exactly as I have planned for that day. However, the longer I serve Him and the more I grow to love Him, I find that most of the time that what I have planned for the day was already His plans for me. When you spend a lot of time with Him, it is easier to know His heart and what He wants us to do. Allow His plans to become your plans today.
