Often in our lives we become discouraged and are tempted to give up. I think as Jesus hung on that cross He also became discouraged and was tempted to give up. Remember, Jesus was human just as we are and He felt the same emotions that we feel. He too experienced loneliness and heartache. All He had ever done was give His love and now He was about to be killed because of that love. I believe with all my heart that for every thorn that was in the crown of thorns that they put on His head, there were ten thorns that He felt in His heart because of their rejection of Him and their cruelty to Him.
We think that it is terrible that they crucified and mocked the Saviour of the world, yet we are just as guilty as if we had actually been there that day by the way we live. He has commanded us, not asked but commanded us, that we love one another unconditionally as He loves us. However we fail Him many times in this area of our lives. Day after day we place another thorn in His heart by our actions and words to each other.
It is time that we stop breaking His heart and start loving and forgiving as He has commanded us to do. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords and deserves to be treated with dignity, respect and awe. Because He was human, He understands when we are hurting. If you are hurting today, tell Him and He will be faithful to put the joy, excitement and happiness back in your heart.
