God sent His Son out of a heart of love for us but His heart was broken because He missed His Son so much. He watched as His Son was rejected, criticized, mocked and scorned. When His Son was crucified for us, the heart of God was crushed and broken and He wept like any father would weep. He hurts when His Son hurts.
Yes, our salvation and forgiveness is free but it cost God His only Son and it cost Jesus His life. I think as God sees how we treat His Son; His heart is broken over and over. He sees us many times only spending time with Jesus when we are in need of something. The Bible says there is no greater love than a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) This is what Jesus did for us; He laid down His life because He Loves us so much.
As we celebrate the birthday of Jesus next month, let us give our hearts and lives to Him in complete surrender and obedience. Let’s lay down our lives for our families, loved ones and friends by keeping quiet when we desperately want to say something unkind to them when they hurt us. Above all, let us give the gift of forgiveness and compassion to all who have hurt us, remembering that we also hurt them. It would make the heart of God rejoice if He would see us treat His Son with respect, honor and dignity.
