HIS GREAT FAITHFULNESS

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

1 Corinthians 10: 13 King James Version

I have received several emails over the last three months from people who have told me “God has given me more than I can bear. He does give me more than I can bear. I can’t go on hurting like I am hurting and not being able to sleep at night. I don’t understand how all the people who have hurt me can sleep at night. They never seem to have any problems and they don’t care that they have hurt me”.

I submit to you on the authority of the Word of God that He never has or ever will give us more than we can bear. It may hurt so bad and the pain is so intense that we feel like we can’t bear it and we may be at a place where we are without hope, joy and peace. However, God is faithful. What He says, He will do. If we will go to Him in child like trust and faith and ask Him to help us, to restore our joy and happiness, He will be faithful to do it. When we say that He has given us more than we can bear, we are calling Him a liar and we are breaking His heart.

I used to feel the same way before I fell in love with Jesus and started spending time with Him. I thought “I can’t bear all of this pain, anguish and crippling depression”. One day, God spoke to my heart and told me “You either believe Me and trust Me or you don’t believe Me and trust Me, there is no middle ground. It hurts Me when You doubt what I have told you”.

My heart broke and I was ashamed when He said that to me. Since that day I have never doubted Him again. I still have problems. I still get lonely and I still hurt when someone criticizes me but I know that He is faithful and will take away all the sadness I feel. He will protect me, and He will be faithful to comfort and encourage me when the hurt and pain overwhelms me. Jesus is indeed a faithful and trusted friend! He has proven to me time after time that He is trustworthy.

Jesus has already given us everything that we need to live a victorious daily life and if we have a bad day, it’s not His fault. He died for us. He was beaten beyond recognition. He was abused, ridiculed, criticized and scorned. If He could bear all of that for us, how dare you and I doubt that He is faithful to keep His word! He tells us to put on the whole armour of God (Ephesians 6:11) so we will be prepared to withstand all the poisonous darts of satan.

We will have all kinds of attacks from satan, the world, and sad to say, sometimes our families, but if we have anchored our heart and trust in the harbor of safety, our blessed Saviour, we will be sheltered and protected. One of the ways satan attacks us is through loneliness. I have been unable to attend church for two years due to arthritis and the only fellowship I get is from the people on my mailing list. We must be faithful to encourage each other. We don’t know what is going on in someone’s life. That person may be feeling suicidal, or going through a life changing, heartbreaking, painful and devastating divorce, or may have just received news from the doctor that he or she only has a short time to live.

Many years ago when I lived in Texas, I attended a monthly meeting when this speaker would come to town. I remember going home after the meeting one night and God spoke to my heart. He said “Call Barbara and tell her that I love her”. I was hesitant to do so because I thought “Who am I to call her and tell her that God loves her”? However, I did call and I will never forget what she said the next month in the meeting. She said “Someone called me last month and told me that God loves me. You may think that I don’t need anyone to tell me that He loves me but I needed that right at that very moment. That was the watering of the Holy Spirit”.

All of us need encouragement, fellowship, comfort, compassion, understanding and kindness. If you know someone who is lonely, pick up the telephone and call that person or send that person an email. There may come a time in your life when you need someone to encourage and comfort you. Above all, call Jesus today and tell Him how much you love and appreciate all He has done for you and is doing for you every day.
