HIS GREAT LOVE AND MERCY

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God; let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Hebrews 4: 14 – 16 King James Version

Jesus is not only our Saviour; He is a compassionate and loving friend. He understands when we are tempted to say unkind words to people who are constantly criticizing and judging us. He doesn’t stop loving us just because we fail Him. Thank God for that because He would have stopped loving me a long time ago. I fail Him every day in some way. There is always another telephone call I could have made, another letter I could have sent or another email of encouragement I could have sent to someone who was hurting. I’m so glad that He knows that I love Him even when I fail Him.

Don’t let anyone tell you that Jesus will stop loving you if you aren’t perfect. None of us are perfect; there was only one person who was perfect and His name is Jesus. We are to strive to be the kind, loving and compassionate people that He wants us to be, but if we fail Him, He will not stop loving us. I think it’s time that we start being honest with ourselves and admit that we don’t please Him all the time. There are times when we do things and say things that we know He doesn’t want us to do and say.

We can come boldly to the throne of grace with the assurance that what He says, He will do. We can depend on Jesus to be the same all the time because He never changes. He is and always will be our Saviour, who saves us not only from our sins, but also from people who are constantly criticizing and judging us and from the people who would like to see us fail in our service to Him. His mercy and love are like a breath of fresh air in a small room that is filled with the stench of violence, sexual abuse, marital problems, physical abuse and verbal abuse. His grace is sufficient for us and His love and mercy will keep picking us up and encouraging us to continue in our service to Him.

Thank God for our great high priest, Jesus. Thank God that one day our Heavenly Father looked down from heaven and had compassion on us and sent His Son to die for us so that we may be saved. There is no greater love than the love of Jesus. His love can change a hardened criminal into a person full of love and tenderness. He can reach down His hand of love and mercy and enable us to withstand all temptations. Indeed, without Jesus, I would surely fail.
