HUG THEM TO JESUS

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!”

Matthew 23: 37 King James Version

The Heart of our Saviour was broken as He said this verse. He said “how often” so that tells us that many times He waited for people to come to Him. He waited with open arms and a Heart full of Love for them. Today, He is still waiting with outstretched arms and Love in His Heart for us.

All of us have family and loved ones that don’t have Jesus in their hearts. They may have said there is a Saviour, but have never invited Him into their hearts. They may go to church, sing in the choir, play the piano, sing specials, teach Sunday School, and even preach, but they have never made a heart commitment to Jesus as personal Saviour.

Yesterday, I heard this beautiful and touching sermon on the radio. The Pastor told about something that happened to him when he was a young man. He said “I had stopped reading my Bible and praying. One day, I received word that my favorite uncle was dying. I went to the hospital to see him and my uncle said to me “I’m going to die and I’m not ready to die.” The Pastor said that he told his uncle “You’re not going to die; you’re going to get well and we’re going fishing again.”

His uncle kept saying to him that “I’m going to die and I’m not ready to die”. The Pastor kept telling him the same thing “You’re not going to die. You’re going to get well and we’re going to go fishing.” The Pastor said in his sermon yesterday with his voice quivering that as far as he knows, his uncle died without Jesus in his heart. He said that it has broken his heart again and again that he didn’t tell his beloved uncle about Jesus and how to be saved.

We need to start hugging our family and loved ones to Jesus. We may not be able to hug them in person due to living far away, but we can hug them with our words in letters and emails. We can pick up the telephone and call them and tell them that we love them, but far more important, Jesus Loves you.

We need to realize the urgency of the moment. None of us have the promise of even another hour. Jesus may take me Home as I type this and I’m longing to go Home, but I have family and loved ones that have never made a heart commitment to Jesus. We don’t know when Jesus is coming back, but He is coming and we need to stop burying our heads in the sand!

We should tell them how to be saved, but then we need to be quiet and let Jesus work in their hearts. We need to be loving to them not only in our words, but in our actions. When is the last time you hugged your family and loved ones? One of the deepest regrets in my life is that when I was growing up at home, we didn’t hug one another.

Jesus is longing for people to come to Him. When He gave His life for us, He proved how much He Loves us. Let’s hug our family and loved ones to Jesus. Jesus is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. O my friends, don’t turn your back on Jesus. Don’t keep breaking His Heart; He Loves you.
