I DON’T DO CHRISTMAS

“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15: 12, 13 King James Version

Somebody gave a dear friend of mine a Christmas gift and he said “I don’t do Christmas”. No, he doesn’t go out and buy a lot of big and expensive gifts but he gives gifts that can’t be bought and are much more meaningful. He gives his time, guidance, love, encouragement and friendship. There have been countless times when he fixed my car when I had one and he has fixed many things in my home. He did all of these things without charging me anything.

This beloved friend of mine is a wonderful husband to his wife. He encourages her, talks to her and laughs with her. The gift of laughing with your husband or wife is a very important and essential ingredient in a marriage. When his wife is sick, my friend takes care of her. He does all of these things because he loves her so much. If every man was as good to his wife as my friend is to his wife, we would have a world filled with happy marriages that would bring joy to the heart of Jesus.

A lot us want to buy the biggest and most expensive gifts we can find to give our loved ones because we love them so much. Many of us, like me, don’t have the money to do this but we can give from our heart, the gifts of our time, talents, compassion, encouragement, forgiveness and understanding. The greatest gift we can give anybody is to tell them how much Jesus Loves them. Another precious gift we can give is our time. We can encourage them, not just at Christmas but every day of the year. All of us can give forgiveness. Have you forgiven as Jesus has commanded?
