I DON’T UNDERSTAND

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Galatians 6:7 King James Version

God gave me the ministry of composing inspirational writings on January 24, 2005. Within two weeks time, I received eight emails from parents who all said the same thing “I don’t understand why my children are disobedient and rebellious”. Yet all eight of these parents told me that they had been drinking, fighting with their spouses and yelling at their children every day when their children were little. They all said to me “I thought when you became a Christian that old things were passed away so why are my children disobedient now? I’ve stopped drinking, fighting and yelling at my children”.

Jesus is the only one who can see into a person’s heart and know what is in it. Our families can only go by what they have seen in the past. It is up to us to live our lives in such a manner that they will see the difference Jesus can make and want it too. I was in the depths of despair and depression for over forty years so I had to prove to my family and the friends who knew me when I was so depressed that I was changed.

I had been hateful, critical and judgmental to my family. Sometimes when I remember how I was so disrespectful to my Mother, my heart breaks. I used to constantly chastise myself for my past until a dear pastor friend in Oklahoma told me to stop it because satan was just looking for a way to discourage me.

If we tell our children we are going to take them someplace or do something and don’t do it, they are not going to believe us. There are all kinds of things that can come up to prevent us from doing what we promised but if it happens time and time again, it is no wonder our children don’t trust us. Don’t be defeated, parents. Be encouraged and realize that Jesus loves your children and will protect them from harm.

You still have the opportunity and responsibility to pray for your children and witness to them, more by your actions than your words. One of the ways that satan tries to discourage us is by making us feel like we failed our children. Don’t let him do that to you. If you have asked Jesus to forgive you for your mistakes, it is under the blood and He will never hold it against you again.

Keep loving your children! Never give up on them because Jesus will be faithful to draw them to Him. There is hope in the Lord. We can depend on Him to bring our children to the place where they will love Jesus and want to serve Him. We need to stand in the gap for our children. We must bring them to Jesus and place them on His pillow of love.
