I FIT IN

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”

2 Corinthians 6: 17, 18 King James Version

Have you ever seen somebody who claims to be a Christian doing things that God has told us in His Word that we are not to do? A person once told me “I do these things because I fit in with the crowd”. Many years ago I saw someone in authority at a church doing something that God has told us not to do and when he realized that I had seen him, he said “I only do this because they don’t have any right to judge me”. This person was absolutely correct. We don’t have the right to judge someone but God has the right to judge and He has said not to do these things.

We are to witness to the ones who don’t have Jesus as their personal Saviour but we are not to lower the standards that God has set for us as Christians to do so. Because of what I saw this man at the church do, I decided that I didn’t want to be saved because I didn’t see any difference. O that people would see the difference in the lives of those who claim to be saved, forgiven and washed in the atoning cleansing blood of Jesus! Christians have a mandate from God to spread the good news of a risen Saviour to a lost and dying world. We are to live our lives so that others will see the difference Jesus makes in a person’s life who has committed his or her life to Him.

We are in the world, but not of the world so we shouldn’t desire to “fit in” if we have given our hearts and lives to Jesus. Our citizenship is in heaven and our king is King Jesus. It is our responsibility to lead others to Jesus by our actions and by our words. We are to love people with unconditional love just as Jesus loves us. We should have such a heavy burden for people who are hurting and don’t have the joy of knowing Jesus as their personal Saviour that we want them to have the happiness, joy and peace that we have and that only He can give to us. We should cry out to God and ask Him to help us love others as He loves us.

Are you trying to “fit in” with a crowd that is doing things that hurt Jesus and brings shame to His name? If so, ask Jesus to help you live your life so that it will reflect the beauty and joy of being a Christian. Instead of trying to “fit in” with the world and gain their approval, live your life so that you will “fit in” with Jesus and have His approval.

It doesn’t matter what the world thinks of us. What matters and what is important is what Jesus thinks of us. Are you holding up the light of the Saviour of the world to those who are in the darkness of despair, loneliness and heartaches? Do they see Jesus in your smile and hear Him in your words? People may know that you are saved, but do they know that you love Jesus by the way you live your life?
