People have written me and asked if I have trouble forgiving people. I can honestly say that it is a lot easier now than it was two years ago. I have been hurt deeply by many people, but I also have hurt people. When I asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins and come into my heart and be my Saviour, I asked Him to please change my heart and help me forgive people.
It didn’t happen overnight. If fact, it took me two years to start forgiving from my heart. I would forgive people verbally and in my head, but not from my heart so I hadn’t really forgiven them. I finally said, “Jesus, You know I have no desire to forgive these people who have hurt me so much, but I love You and I am willing to be made willing to forgive from my heart. Would you please help me to want to forgive”?
We have to start with the basics. If we’re not willing to forgive, then we need to ask Jesus to give us a desire to want to forgive. Unless we love Jesus and desire to please Him and make Him happy, it is impossible to forgive people because all of us are in the flesh and it takes Jesus operating on our hearts to soften and mold us.
If you are having trouble forgiving from the heart, ask Jesus to help you, and remember if you refuse to forgive, God will not forgive you. All of us need to realize that we hurt people just as they hurt us. None of us are perfect. Every one of us are sinners and need the cleansing blood of Jesus applied to our hearts. Allow Jesus to soften your hardened heart today.
