Is It Torn?

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

2 Timothy 2: 15 King James Version

Last night while looking for a passage of Scripture, I noticed the first few pages in my Bible are halfway torn from the binding. I got so excited and said “Thank You, God, for putting a hunger for Your Word in my heart”. I usually don’t like it when something is broken or torn, but I am glad that I have to buy a new Bible.

This verse says to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God”. When we are in school, we have to pass our teacher’s approval before we are moved to a higher grade. We need to have the approval of God on the way we read His Word, treat others, and live our lives.

We should have a hunger in our hearts to spend time with Jesus. We don’t have to be reading the Bible all day long, but we should be thinking about Him all day long. If we are doing something that does not draw attention to Him, we need to stop doing it. If we are going somewhere that wouldn’t make Him comfortable, we shouldn’t go there.

Are you a workman for Jesus? Are you serving Him with all your heart, or are you just giving Him the time left over out of your busy schedule? Jesus should come first above everything and everybody. If people see your Bible, will they be able to tell you are reading it, or is it heavy with dust as mine used to be before I fell in love with Jesus?
