“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. Have you ever seen a commercial on television where somebody dumped a pile of dirt on the carpet to prove that their brand of vacuum cleaner is better than the others and that it will get all of the dirt out of the carpet and get it cleaner than the other brands? I think if we could really see up close every fiber of the carpet, we would see some dirt or dust that the vacuum cleaner did not pick up.

If people could see into our hearts, they would see that we sometimes allow our hearts to become filled with the filth of the world through television, movies and the pursuit of happiness which only brings destruction and chaos to our lives because Jesus is the only one who can give us true happiness. We will never be able to find happiness in sex (which is not love), pornography, drugs or alcohol. They may give us a temporary illusion of happiness but it doesn’t last. The happiness that Jesus gives lasts forever.

All the vacuum cleaners in the world put together could not touch the dirt in our hearts that has accumulated over the years because of our willful rebellion and disobedience to the commands of Jesus. It is only as the precious blood of Jesus is applied to our hearts that the dirt and filth of our sins is washed away. It removes the resentment, bitterness, hatred, criticism, and sarcasm that we allow to build up in our hearts. When Jesus vacuums our hearts with His cleansing atoning blood, it really works because He takes away every spot and stain.

For some of you Jesus has been knocking at the door of your heart for years and you have never opened the door to Him. If you have never humbled yourself, admitted that you are a sinner and asked Jesus to forgive you, cleanse you from all of your sins and come into your heart to be your personal Saviour, there is no better time than right now. Don’t put it off because you may not have another hour to live. The choice that you make right now will determine if you will spend eternity with Jesus or if you will spend eternity with satan. What is your choice?
