JUST ONE STEP

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.”

Psalm 37: 23, 24 King James Version

Have you ever seen a little child trying to walk? The child holds the hands of the parent’s so he or she won’t fall. When the parents let go of the child’s hand most of the time the child falls. Some parents wait for the child to get back up and other parents pick the child up. We have a Saviour who never waits for us to get back up on our own. He reaches down His compassionate hand and lifts us up and whispers softly in our ears “I will help you. You are not alone. Don’t be afraid because I will walk with you every step of the way”.

We don’t have the strength to withstand all the evil and temptations in the world without getting into trouble. We certainly aren’t able to resist the temptations of satan on our own. Only Jesus can rescue us from the snares of the world and satan. It is His strength, not our strength that enables us to keep going in the middle of heartaches, pain and difficult situations. Without Jesus, we would fall and never be able to get up again. When He was here on earth, He also was tempted, scorned, rejected, cursed and criticized so He understands how we feel. It is because of His amazing unconditional love for us that He rescues us time and time again.

There is a song with the words “If you’ll take one step toward the Saviour, my friend, you’ll find His arms open wide. Believe Him and all of your darkness will flee, within His arms you’ll abide. Time after time He has waited before and now He is waiting again to see if you’re willing to open the door. O how He wants to come in”.

Jesus is waiting to take your hand and lift you up out of the darkness of despair and heartaches but you have to take the first step. You must in simple child like faith go to Him and ask Him to help you. He is faithful and will always help you. There is nothing too hard for Him. He tenderly and lovingly puts marriages back together and makes them stronger. He brings our rebellious and wandering children back to Him. He heals the broken hearted and sets us free from the darkness and terror of verbal, sexual and physical abuse. Indeed, there is no one like Jesus! There is no one who loves us like He loves us! Thank God for Jesus who loves us so much that He allowed them to torture and crucify Him on a cross of horror.

If you have never taken the first step toward faith in the Lord Jesus, I urge you to open your heart to Him, admit that you are a sinner and ask Him to forgive you and cleanse you in His precious atoning blood. Without Him, you will constantly be falling and one day you won’t be able to get back up. There will come a time when you will grow weary of all of life’s battles and heartaches and you will give up and stop trying. You don’t have to do it alone; you can’t do it alone. Allow Jesus to not only be your Saviour, but to also be your friend and constant companion.
