When that man knocked on my bedroom window a couple of days ago while I was sleeping, my first reaction was panic. Then when I woke up completely, I realized that I was not alone. Jesus has promised us that He will never leave us. I had to make a choice right that minute. I could either continue in my fear and panic or I could trust Jesus to protect me. I chose to trust Him.
Jesus not only gives us peace in the midst of terror, heartaches, and the storms of criticism and sarcasm that come against us, He gives us perfect peace if our minds are stayed on Him. Many times we suffer needlessly because we choose to focus on our circumstances rather that focus on Him. We are sometimes like the Israelites in the Bible. God had led them victorious through many obstacles, yet when a new danger came upon them, they would forget how He had been faithful to continually protect them.
I think that we hurt Jesus by not trusting Him more than we do. I believe His heart is broken again and again by our doubts and unbelief. We need to understand that Jesus is not a liar. What He says, He will do! We put more faith in a chair than we do in the Saviour of the world. How many of us when we sit in a chair stop to wonder if the chair will break? I have to confess that I don’t, yet many times I have not trusted Jesus in different circumstances and I have had to go to Him in shame and ask Him to please forgive me for doubting and hurting Him. Do you trust Him for every area of your life?
