“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”

Proverbs 16: 24 King James Version

I received a very hateful email today. There was no signature or greeting. There was just two words “Eat glass”. When I read those words it felt like this person had taken a sharp piece of glass and plunged it into my heart. Just two words and satan tried to convince me that Jesus doesn’t love me. We need to be cautious and stay on guard at all times because nothing makes satan any happier than to discourage us from serving Jesus.

I think all of us have had cruel words said to us and so you know how I felt. It crushed me, hurt me and made me feel like I was worthless. Thank God that I immediately realized what was happening. I sent an email to my pastor and asked my pastor to put me on the pillow of Love, Jesus. When we are attacked and stabbed in the heart, only Jesus can take the hurt away. We can pray for each other and encourage each other but He is the only one who can put the lights of hope and joy back into our hearts.

As terrible as it was to receive that email, it would be far worse if we who claim to be Christians would say cruel words like these to somebody else. I think a lot of times we don’t stop to think about what we are saying. There are times when we do need to say something that may sound harsh but we need to say them out of love and say them with respect for the other person. I have a dear pastor friend who has said many times in his sermons to go by these guidelines before we say anything “Is it necessary? Is it true and does it encourage”? Be careful what you say or you might be plunging a sharp piece of glass in someone’s heart.
