In this world of heartache and crippling depression, there is only one solution and His name is Jesus. I receive countless emails and telephone calls from people who are hurting and desperately need to know that someone cares and understands how they feel. Yes, everyone has problems and heartaches, however we should understand that each person has his or her own reaction to a situation. What may seem like a small thing and unimportant in the light of our pain and suffering, to that person may be a devastating crisis that could lead to suicide.
Jesus said that He is giving us a new commandment to love one another. Apparently, He was not happy at the lack of love so He made it a commandment. Loving one another is not an option; it is a commandment. If we truly love Jesus as we should, then it will be very easy to love one another. However, if we don’t love Jesus and don’t care if He is happy or not, then it will be very difficult to love someone who is hateful to us.
All of us have feelings and we get hurt at times by unkind words and acts that have been said or done to us. Jesus also has feelings and He has been hurt more than anyone. Jesus, the Saviour of the world has been criticized, ridiculed, mocked, spat upon, cursed and crucified on a cross of horror and torture. Yet, even while hanging on the cross, He looked down and said “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do”. (Luke 23:34) If Jesus can Love us after the way we treat Him, how much more should we love one another. Do you love Jesus?
