MY SAVIOUR AND FRIEND

“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.”

John 15: 14, 15 King James Version

I received an email asking me why I introduced Jesus as my Friend instead of my Saviour. It is because He is my Friend. However, for Him to be my friend, I had to first accept Him into my heart as my personal Saviour. He says that we are His friends if we do what He tells us to do. I fail Him many times but He knows my heart and He knows that I love Him.

There are times when we feel that nobody cares and that we are all alone in our grief and in the trial that we are facing. I submit to you on the Authority of the Word of God that Jesus will always be with us if we have accepted Him into our hearts as our personal Saviour. He has told us that He will never leave us or forsake us. He does not lie. We can trust Him because what He says, He will do.

When this verse became real to me, when I realized that Jesus was calling me His friend, I felt a mixture of emotions. First of all, I felt excited to be His friend. Then, I felt humble and unworthy to be called His friend. None of us are worthy except through His precious blood that He shed for us on the Cross of Calvary.

It is wonderful that He calls us His friends; however we need to ask ourselves “Am I being a friend to Him”. Are we doing things to prove that we love Him? Are we making Him happy, or are we making Him sad? When people look at us, do they see a smile on our faces, or do they see a frown?
