NO HUGS

“And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.”

Matthew 8: 20 King James Version

Yesterday, I was so excited over a package that I had received that I wanted to hug somebody. However, there was no one to hug since I live alone. We all need hugs. We need them when we’re sad, and also when we’re happy because they express emotion that is sometimes so difficult to put into words.

As I was thinking this morning about not having a hug yesterday, I realized that Jesus not only had no place where to lay his head, He didn’t get hugs. The pain that went through my heart as I really thought about Him not getting hugs was sharp like a knife cutting my heart.

I’m sure Mary and Joseph gave Him hugs and perhaps His siblings when He was young. However, when He was preaching and teaching, no place do I read in the Bible that He received hugs from people. If ever somebody needed a hug of encouragement and love, it was Jesus!

Why is it that we will spend money on medicine for our family when they are sick, but won’t give them hugs? Many times in my life when I was going through all the despair and devastation of crippling depression if someone would have just given me a hug, I could have made it through the day without feeling so alone.

We can’t hug Jesus until we see Him in person, but we can reach out and hug our family, loved ones and friends. How His Heart must have broken because nobody hugged Him!
