NOT A PUPPET

“Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men.”

Isaiah 29: 13 King James Version

I was listening to an evangelist on television early this morning and the sermon was about saying positive words instead of saying negative words. The evangelist said to speak Scripture to satan when he attacks us. The Bible tells us that the Word of God is powerful, a two-edged sword and we can come against satan with it. Even Jesus when He was tempted by satan would tell satan “It is written”. However, we need to understand that God is not a name and claim it God. He is not a puppet that all we have to do is pull His strings and He will perform for us.

Jesus says in this verse that we honour Him with our lips, but our hearts are far from Him. We have no right to even ask God to do something for us if our hearts are not right with Him. I think sometimes we get the mistaken idea that if we keep asking Him for something like we do our parents; He will eventually get tired of hearing us and do it just so we won’t bother Him anymore. God is not like our earthly parents; He does not grant us something just because He gets tired of us.

We need to stop treating Him like a puppet and start treating Him with the respect that He deserves. We need to come to Him with broken hearts for our sins and ask Him to cleanse us. Only then, do we have a right to ask Him for something. Jesus is worthy of our respect. How is your heart today? When He looks into your heart, does He see a heart for Him, or a heart for satan?
