Many years ago, I went fishing with a friend. We went out on the lake in my friend’s boat and stayed out there for seven hours. It was very hot that day and the sun was shining brightly. Instead of getting the suntan that I desired, I got a bad sunburn. I couldn’t stand to have anyone touch me for two days. It was very painful.
The day I asked Jesus to forgive me of my sins and come into my heart to be my personal Saviour was the day I got another sunburn. However, it wasn’t a sunburn that I received, it was a Sonburn. Jesus burned all my sins away through His precious atoning blood. Thank God for the Sonburn that saved me and changed my heart and life!
Until we allow Jesus to apply the cleansing heat of His forgiveness, mercy, grace and compassion in our hearts, we will never be able to love others as He has commanded us to love. People spend a lot of money on suntan lotions to get a tan. Often, they spend the entire day at the beach in the hopes of getting the tan they desire.
If we spent as much time allowing Jesus to burn our hearts with His Love and compassion for others, we would be much more effective witnesses for Him. We must allow Jesus to burn all the hatred, unforgiveness, bitterness, envy and malice from our hearts. Have you invited Jesus to brand your heart with His salvation and forgiveness?
