NO TOILET PAPER

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

1 John 1: 5 - 10 King James Version

There have been three times in my life when I was at a store and there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. I had to use the paper towels that were there. They felt rough and I didn’t feel clean. Has that ever happened to you? It doesn’t matter where we are or what we are doing or what time it is we can ask Jesus for forgiveness. We don’t have to wait until we get home and can get on our knees to pray. God is not impressed with our posture when we pray; what touches His heart is the condition of our hearts when we pray.

Many times we allow bitterness, hatred, sarcasm, hurt, resentment, unforgiveness and criticism to build up in our hearts and we say and do things that bring shame to Jesus and hurt Him. If we feel the Holy Spirit convicting us of hurting someone and sinning, we can go to God in prayer immediately and ask Him to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He will be faithful to forgive us.

However, we need to understand that He knows our hearts and He knows if we really are sorry that we have hurt people and said unkind things to them. We can fool everybody else but we will never be able to fool Him as He knows everything and can see into the depths of our hearts. Have you ever known someone who appears kind and friendly to people but this person is very rude and critical to you? Jesus sees this and He is keeping record. One day this person will stand before a Holy God and give an account of the hurt this person caused people.

Let’s live so that we won’t be the ones to stand before a Holy God in shame because of the unkind things we have said and the cruel things we have done to people. None of us are perfect and we need to focus on our own hearts and allow Jesus to keep them tuned so that we don’t bring shame to our Saviour. Allow Jesus to be the toilet paper of your heart and wipe the sins from your heart with His cleansing atoning blood.
