OUR ETERNAL HOME

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”

John 14: 1 - 4 King James Version

I just read about a man in Houston who was facing eviction from his home. He got so upset and angry that he shot and killed the apartment manager and then killed himself. In this world we are living in, there are no guarantees of anything. The gas prices keep going up and up. The cost of groceries has really gone up. The only thing that we have that will never change is the love of Jesus for a lost and dying world. He is an eternal, trustworthy and secure foundation of hope, love, joy, happiness and peace upon which we can build our lives.

He died for us on a cruel cross of agony, horror and torture so that we can be assured of an eternal home in heaven with Him. He was beaten beyond recognition and endured an agony and horror that none of us will ever experience. Why did He do this? Why did He allow Himself to be crucified and why did He stay on that cruel cross because He could have come down from the cross? If He had changed His mind and said “I can’t endure this pain. It’s too much to bear. They have rejected and scorned Me so why should I stay on this cross?” all the nails and spikes and all the people in the world could not have kept Him on that cross.

He stayed on that cross because of His great amazing and undeserved love for us. He endured all the shame and reproach that was ours to bear because He is Love. He not only gives us unconditional love; He is Love! The Bible says “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53: 5). There is a song with the words “He paid a debt He did not owe. I owed a debt I could not pay. Christ Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay”. Is it any wonder why I love Him so much! He is the greatest friend that we can have and He understands our pain and cares when we are hurting.

If we have made a heart commitment to Him, asked Him to forgive us for our sins, come into our hearts and save us, we have a permanent reservation in heaven and all hell can’t take it away. It is not enough to ask Him to forgive us. He will forgive us because He said He would but if we keep doing the same things over and over we didn’t really make a heart commitment to Him. We must repent of our sins. A true repentance is when our heart breaks because of what we have done in the past and because we have hurt Jesus. Until and unless we turn from our old ways and the people that we associated with that are involved in things that are displeasing to Jesus, we have not really repented.

I know what it’s like to be without a home. I have slept on concrete floors because there was no bed for me where I was staying. At one point in my life, I slept on a park bench for a couple of nights. It has only been eight years ago that I have lived anywhere for more than a couple of months at a time. It is a frightening experience not knowing where you will sleep at night. However, when I fell in love with Jesus and asked Him to take control of my life, He gave me a home of my own. He is faithful to do as He promises us.

Do you have this assurance of an eternal home in heaven with Jesus? Have you made a reservation through the cleansing atoning blood of Jesus? If not, please don’t wait! Give your heart and life to Jesus right this minute and you will have a peace, joy, happiness and excitement that nothing or nobody can give you. This joy and happiness is permanent. It doesn’t go away the next day. Say “yes” to Jesus before it is too late.
