OUR FORTRESS

“Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”

Psalm 56: 1 – 4 King James Version

Do you ever feel like everything that can go wrong has gone wrong? For those of us who have surrendered our lives to Jesus in full time service, satan is always trying to discourage us in some way. It would make satan very happy if we were to allow him to defeat us and stop us from serving Jesus. We read in the Bible in 1 John 4:4 “Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.” No matter what satan tries to do, he will never defeat us if we have Jesus in our hearts.

We are human and if we are concerned about something, it is not a sin. However, if we are so concerned about it that we constantly dwell on it then we probably should search our hearts and see how much we trust Jesus. When we are unable to believe and trust that Jesus will work everything out for us, we need to ask Him to please help us to have more faith.

Does that mean that we won’t have doubts and fears? Of course not, all of us have situations that arise which test our faith. However, we need to remember that not only does Jesus save us from our sins; He also saves us from the storms of life. There is nothing too hard for Jesus. He is able to rescue us and save us from any situation or crisis. It is always safe to trust our precious Saviour.

If you are discouraged today because of crises and situations in your life that seem overwhelming, run into the protective outstretched arms of Jesus. He is our fortress from the storms of life. He will hold you close to His heart until the noise of the storms goes away. He will whisper softly in your ear “I love you and I won’t let anything happen to you.” Give all of your fears and discouragement to Jesus and you will once again feel His peace in your heart, a peace that the world can’t give and the world can’t take away. Thank You, Jesus, for loving us and for protecting us.
