OUR WORDS

“But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.”

James 3: 8 King James Version

I received an email from a dear friend this morning who said that she has a hard time believing that people care for her. I also felt that way for many years because of the things that had been said to me. Our words can either encourage people, or discourage people.

It is vitally important that we say encouraging and loving things to one another. All of us have trials and difficult situations that we go through, and we desperately need to know that someone cares.

If you don’t know what to say to people, or are shy in saying things, reach out and give them a hug. A hug says more than a million words could possibly say. Give them a smile and then do something kind for them.

Our words can literally cause someone to take his or her life. When I was growing up, there was a person that really influenced me. She had been to Bible School and taught in a Christian School. I moved away and years later I called her sister who is also a good friend and she told me that her sister had committed suicide because of the constant verbal abuse of her husband.

We need to pray constantly and ask Jesus to help us only say things that are encouraging. Are you hurting people by your cruel words?
