PATH OF FREEDOM

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.”

Proverbs 3: 5 – 8 King James Version

When I asked Jesus what He wanted me to write in this devotional, He kept saying the words “freedom and path” to me. I was reminded of these verses. This is one of my favorite passages in the Bible. If ever we needed a path of freedom, it is today. The world is full of violence, pornography, drugs, alcohol and all other things that bring disgrace to our Saviour. There is only one path of real freedom and His name is Jesus.

He is the one who sets us free from the bondage of sin and bad habits. On August 14, 1980, He set me free from the chains of darkness and depression that had me in shackles for so many years. He deposited His love, grace, mercy and forgiveness in my heart, saved me by His precious atoning blood that He shed on the cross and gave me a new heart and a new life. Is it any wonder that I say and will say as long as I have breath “There is no one like Jesus! No one loves us like Jesus loves us”!

The first thing we have to do is trust Jesus and stop trying to understand everything. It is only by acknowledging Him in all our ways will He be able to direct our paths. Sometimes we think we have all the answers and we become conceited and arrogant. It is then that Jesus has to take us out to His woodshed of love and correct us. He does it because He loves us and wants to see us happy. The only way we will ever be happy is by being in the center of His will for our lives.

If Jesus has set us free from bad habits, then we should not run around with the old crowd that does these things because it only takes one temptation to weaken our resolve. We need to have fellowship with people who love Jesus and prove it by their actions. That does not mean that we aren’t to associate with other people, but it does mean that we are not to have a close friendship with people unless they love Jesus and are doing their best to make Him happy.

None of us are perfect, including me because I fail Him every day of my life as there is always another email or another phone call that I could make to encourage someone. We should strive to do things and say things that brings honor to Jesus. It should be the goal of every Christian to exalt Jesus in everything that we say and do. Are you walking in the path of freedom or are you still walking in the path of satan?
