PLEASE HUG THEM

“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

Ephesians 6: 4 King James Version

I can remember several times in my life going up to my Dad and giving him a hug. He never looked up from what he was reading and hugged me back. The most I ever got when I hugged him was a grunt. It made me very angry and made me more depressed than I was already.

I don’t know why I kept hugging him when it hurt so badly. I guess I was hoping that one day he would hug me back. I also was very afraid of him because Mom said several times, “Wait until your father gets home”. Parents, do not do this to your children. If you are a mother, don’t make your children afraid of their dad. Dads, don’t provoke your children to anger.

Parents, hug your children even if you don’t think they deserve to be hugged because of their disobedience. Jesus hugs us when we are disobedient to Him. He is the One Who opens His Arms and Heart to us and waits for us to run to Him.

I understand now that my dad was incapable of showing love because no one had showed it to him. It was not his fault. I would give anything to be able to tell my Mom and Dad how sorry I am for the things I said to them and the way I treated them. Please, if your parents are still living, call them immediately and tell them how much you love them.
