REMIND ME

“Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day: Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the Lord thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.”

Deuteronomy 8: 11- 14, 19 King James Version

We sometimes act just as the people acted that God brought out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. How many times has God come to our rescue when we were sinking in the depths of despair, loneliness, anguish and pain and the next week when everything was once again wonderful in our lives, we forgot what He did for us? We might have prayed for weeks or even months asking Him to help us but then after He helped us, we only said thank You maybe once or twice.

When we were faced with another crisis, instead of remembering how He had brought us victoriously through all of our past devastating situations, we started complaining instead of praising Him for what He had already done for us and for how He was going to once again work out all things for our good. We sometimes take Him for granted. We know that He is faithful to keep His word so instead of praising and thanking Him daily for His kindness and love for us, we put Him on the shelf until we need Him to help us again. May God forgive us for treating Him that way!

For some of us, He took us from the bondage of depression, rejection, suicidal thoughts, a childhood that was filled with sexual abuse and beatings, envy, confusion, anger, hatred, bitterness, resentment and horror. Instead of being grateful and thanking Him every day for His amazing, undeserved and unconditional love for us, we gripe and complain when something goes wrong or we don’t get our own way.

How we must break the heart of our precious Saviour when we doubt Him and complain to Him after He has proved Himself faithful to rescue us time and time again! When will we understand that there is nothing too hard for Jesus? The next time something happens to upset us instead of thinking here we go again, let’s go to Him in faith and ask Him to remind us that He is able to bring us through every crisis and every situation victoriously. Are you complaining to Jesus and doubting Him when you are in the middle of difficult situations? If so, ask Him to remind you of how He has been so faithful to you. We need to stop breaking His heart by our lack of faith in Him!
