Sins Of Omission

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.”

Galatians 6: 2, 3 King James Version

I just received an email from a very dear and precious friend of mine. She told me that she is discouraged and my heart is sad because she is sad. Jesus tells us to bear one another’s burdens. Only Jesus can lift the burden, but we can be there for each other. We can pray for one another and encourage one another.

Jesus understands how it feels to need someone there for us. When He was in the Garden, He asked His friends to pray for Him, but they fell asleep. Those friends were not true friends, and they certainly didn’t love Jesus or they could never have fallen asleep knowing that He was hurting.

We focus a lot on sins of commission, but fail to realize that when we commit sins of omission, they stink in the nostrils of God just like the other sins. All of us need to lose our “Holier than thou” attitudes, and this includes me. Many times when I hear of somebody killing someone, I get very upset. However, when I say cruel and discouraging words to someone, I am killing that person in his or her heart. Sin is sin, and we need to stop pretending that we are better than someone else.

If you know of someone who is hurting, and all of us do know someone like that, reach out and hug that person with the Love of Jesus. Take that person to Jesus and ask Him to Comfort him or her as only He can. Let’s be there for one another as Jesus has commanded us to be.
