SOMETHING BETTER

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.”

John 1: 47 - 49 King James Version

A lady who had surrendered her life to full time service for Jesus and had left her family and friends and her job to serve Him was telling her friend about the job she had before she left it to serve Jesus. She described her job in glowing details and told her friend that she was so happy with her job and felt that she was contributing to the world. Her friend said “How could you leave your job and the money you were making?” She replied “I found something better.”

Oh dear people, I have also found something better, I found my precious and loving Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Rather, He found me as I was unable to find anybody or do anything. I wasn’t even living; I merely existed in this world of violence and hatred. I had been abused, raped, beaten, tied up, ridiculed and criticized. I had been locked in a small room and left alone for a long time.

I had been told that I was no good and that I didn’t have a right to live for so long that I believed those lies and tried to kill myself four times. I didn’t trust anybody and I certainly didn’t like anyone. I was in this crippling state of hatred, bitterness, resentment, unforgiveness, and depression for over forty years until Jesus rescued me. Oh what a Saviour, this Jesus of Nazareth! There is no one like Jesus! No one loves us like our Heavenly Father and Jesus loves us.

Jesus told Nathanael that He saw him when he was under the fig tree. One day, Jesus saw me lying underneath that bed in the mental hospital, terrified of everyone and everything. He lifted me up out of the garbage of my life and sat me on His lap of compassion and unconditional love. He gently and tenderly put His arms of understanding and protection around me and held me close to His heart. He has never let me go since that day and He never will let me go.

There are people who have been searching for years to find peace, joy and happiness. They have searched for them in alcohol, in drugs, in sex and all other things with which the world entices us. If you have been searching for peace, joy and happiness, you will never find them in the world. They are only found through our precious Saviour. There is only one way to have these things and that is to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and come into your heart to be your personal Saviour. He is the only one who can give you peace, a lasting peace, a peace that the world can’t give and the world can’t take away.

Don’t waste any more time searching for happiness. Cry out to Jesus and He will give you a peace, a joy and a happiness that you have never known. He will put His arms of compassion around you and wipe your tears away with His tender kisses. He is waiting for you with outstretched arms. Run into His arms and you will never be lonely again because He will never leave you.
