SONGS FROM THE HEART

“My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early. I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations. For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth.”

Psalm 57: 7 – 11 King James Version

This morning as I was watching the news on television, they showed a dear precious lady who is one hundred and two years old singing “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”. She has been singing since she was seven years old. As I looked at the face of this dear lady who loves Jesus, my heart was filled with love for her and with gratitude to her for her service to my dearest and best friend, Jesus. I wanted to sing along with her but I couldn’t because I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of this dear lady’s soul.

There is no telling how many hearts and lives Jesus has touched, set free and changed through the service of this dear lady to Him for almost a century. I stand in awe and amazement of this dear saint of God. I know that she, like us, has had to endure heartaches, criticism and sorrows. I don’t know if she has children and grandchildren, but this one thing I do know, if she does they have seen Jesus in her smiles and heard Him praised not only from her lips, but also from her heart.

I’m sure that there have been times in her life when she failed Jesus like we all do but her heart is filled with the love and compassion of Jesus. I saw the love and compassion of Jesus on her face. I heard His love and compassion in the tone of her voice as I listened to her sing this beautiful song.

I believe that like all of us, she too has had to walk through many disappointments, discouragements and heartaches in her life. Yet, through it all, because of her love for Jesus and her faithfulness to Him, He has been faithful to her like He always is to us. He has held her hand, been her companion and friend and has walked with her through all of the dark and deep valleys and pulled her up onto the mountain tops of joy, peace, excitement and happiness again and again.

If God has given you the talent to sing and you are not singing, you are being disobedient to Him. Not only that, you are hurting Him. God does not give us the talents to sing, preach, teach, write or anything else for us to ignore them. If we are neglecting the talents and the callings that He has entrusted to us, we are not only being disobedient, we are sinning. The Bible says “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (James 4:17)

Are you singing and praising Jesus from your heart? Have the words to the songs become so familiar to you that you just automatically sing them without thinking about what you are singing? O that we would praise Jesus from our hearts! He is worthy to be praised, worshipped, honored and adored. All hail, King Jesus! Worthy is the Lamb of God! He is the King of kings and Lord of lords! We should come before Him with grateful hearts for all He has done for us. Did you praise Him when you woke up this morning or are you waiting until it is convenient for you?
