SPIRITUAL MATURITY

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.”

Proverbs 27: 6 King James Version

I saw a family show on television last year and they had put a ruler mark on the door to show the measurements of the children as they were growing. A sign of spiritual maturity is to accept a rebuke with humility when a Christian friend calls you to accountability.

Tonight, I was talking with a very dear friend over the telephone and I was sharing a concern I had with her. I made a statement and she told me that it wasn’t my place to make that judgment. I was judging someone and didn’t even realize it. I immediately asked God to forgive me.

We need to be very careful that we don’t judge people. I am just as guilty of it as everyone else. Many times we aren’t even aware that we are doing it. It is not our responsibility or right to judge. Our responsibility is to love people to Jesus by our words and actions. We need to leave the judging to Him.

When my friend called me to accountability tonight, she did it with love. Had she said it in a critical or holier than thou attitude, I would have dismissed it. If God lays it on our hearts to point something out to a Christian friend, we need to be certain that we are doing it out of love and not out of superiority.

Have you been judging people without realizing it? If so, ask God to forgive you just as I had to do tonight. He is faithful and just to forgive us of all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
