STANDING ON HIS PROMISES

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Ephesians 6: 14 – 17 King James Version

Jesus gives us instructions on how we are to stand but are we doing what He has told us to do? Are we standing when trials come our way? We read in the Bible these words “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. (Proverbs 24: 10). He tells us to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. It is impossible to spread peace, much less preach about peace, if our hearts are in constant turmoil. The world offers nothing in the way of lasting peace. The only way to have peace, His peace, the peace that passes all understanding, is to keep our eyes on Him and stay in His presence.

He tells us to take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God but often we don’t pick up the sword when we start our day and then we wonder why our day is so unproductive and full of heartache. We are to read the word of God the first thing every morning so that we are prepared for all the negative things that will bombard us. However, just reading the Bible is not enough. We must have the living word, Jesus, in our hearts.

We can know every word in the Bible, every historical event and can quote the entire Bible but if we don’t allow Him to regulate and guide our day, then our days will still be fruitless. Are you standing on His promises or do you sit down and quit every time a trial comes your way? Do you trust Him with your life?
