STAY ON THE CROSS

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

John 16: 33 King James Version

This morning as I was thinking about Jesus dying on the cross for me I realized that Jesus went to the cross out of obedience to His Father and Love for us, but it was only His Love for us that kept Him on the cross. I don’t think it had really dawned on Him how He was going to be mutilated and so cruelly abused. I think as He hung there on that cross for us that every minute seemed like an eternity to Him.

Jesus tells us that we shall have tribulation in this world, but to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. For those of us who have surrendered our lives in full time service to Him, we will endure criticism, sarcasm and ridicule. When we are tempted to give up because we feel that it’s not worth the pain, we need to remember that Jesus didn’t give up. He didn’t come down from the cross. It was His unconditional Love for us that held Him on the cross. I believe with all my heart that all the nails in the world and every person in the world combined could not have kept Him on that cross of torture except for His great Love for us.

If your heart is hurting because of broken homes, rebellious children, divorce, financial difficulties, criticism and sarcasm, stay on the cross of love for your loved ones and friends. It is only as we surrender our lives in unconditional love to others that we are able to effectively minister the Love of Jesus to a hurting world. We must first come to the cross of salvation and receive forgiveness for our sins before we can point others to Him. Have you given Jesus all of your time and talents?
